Today we review the Litom 24-LED Solar Motion Sensor Outdoor Security Lights. Litom has created a very effective and easy-to-use solution for your home security needs, which is powered by 526 lumens and comes with three different activation settings, which are as follows:
- Powers up during the day, projects a medium bright light once it gets dark and stays on for 4-6 hours when fully charged.
- After sunset, a dim light comes on and, when motion is detected, the light brightens significantly for 17-20 seconds.
- After sunset, a bright light will turn on and stay on for 20 seconds if it detects motion, and then turns off again.
These lights generally come in sets of 2 or 4, of you can get just one. They’re great for just about anywhere outside that needs extra illumination, including your deck, your pool area, stairwells, your front porch, your side door, tool sheds, garage area, and so on. These lights come with a wall plug and screws for quick and easy installation.
As advertised, these Litom lights have sensors that pick up movement from anywhere between 10 and 20 feet away. When this is put to the test, sure enough, these Litom lights do detect motion if anything comes anywhere near them. This works great for a number of things, from alerting you to potential intruders on your property, to keeping track of wild animals that might be paying you a visit, to simply keeping certain areas illuminated so you can see where you’re going when you get home late at night.
Whether you want to add extra security to your property by adding these lights to strategic spots, or you just want some attractive lights for your yard as decoration, we think these Litom solar lights are good for multiple purposes.
The reason we think that these lights aren’t just security lights is because of the type of light they give off. While they are quite powerful and they do give off a bright light, the design of these lights is versatile enough that if you place them in the right spot, they can actually compliment other lights you may have in your yard to make a very warm and appealing look. Don’t get us wrong, if you program the light to come on with full brightness, and it is at eye level on your deck, it’s going to be blinding. However, if you have a few of these lights up higher and they are slightly less bright (as with setting #1), you can actually use them to automate the light in your yard in a very pleasing way.
One thing we’ve tried is a lit path leading to a hot tub which is about 20 feet out in the back yard, and the lights light up semi-bright and attached to a pergola and then a gazebo, leading visitors along until they reach the hot tub. If you are willing to get creative, you can do a lot with these lights.
One great feature that we love about these lights is that they’re relatively compact, and so, in addition to not having any wires to deal with, you can stick them pretty much anywhere. Dimensions of the light are about 5″ x 6.3″ x 5″. The design is fairly unobtrusive, and so they are perfect for mounting on just about any surface.
Bright & Responsive
If you are looking to install these lights purely as a security measure, they are both bright and responsive. As mentioned, they pick up motion from about 10 or so feet away, and from the sides as well, so these are smart little lights. In addition, if they are set correctly, these are not dim lights. In fact, for solar lights, you might be surprised how much light they can give off, when set up for security and properly charged.
The manufacturer, Litom, does mention that in the winter time, these lights won’t shine as brightly or for as long because there simply isn’t as much light to charge them. This could be seen as a downside to having these lights. This should remind us that these lights are, after all, solar lights, and so they can only perform as well as the light they have been charged with from the sun. On one hand, solar lights are great because they just require sunlight to function, and need not require batteries or electricity that is going to cost you money. On the other hand, they are what they are – they can certainly be used as security lights, and they function well in this regard. However, we can’t claim that these are going to be as effective as a home security system that is fully automated and works off your power grid. If one day it’s cloudy and there’s no sun, you might have a lack of charge and hence a lack of light. Customers have reported that they still charge on these overcast days, but it’s hard to say how it will work in every individual case. This all needs to be considered in your overall home security plan for your property.
Value For The Price
At the end of the day, these Litom Solar LED lights are a great value for the money you’ll spend on them. To recap their finer points, they are inexpensive, easy to install, and energy efficient. They also function well as security lights, as well as lights that can help you get around your property at night, or even as decorative lights if you position them strategically. The light they give off is warm and bright, but it can be dimmer as needed. On top of this, customers are generally raving about how great these lights are. There are very few naysayers when it comes to this product.
Looking at the downsides, security wise, you definitely want to consider the overall picture when it comes to your home, and security lighting in particular. These lights do seem like they will do the job, but we do suggest you check out other options, as having these solar LED’s may not represent the be-all end-all of your home’s security lighting.
For a final word, we’ll say that these lights are excellent and can basically do everything you need them to do, within reason of course.
